Yesterday we went to Blackpool Zoo. We had a wonderful day! We saw lots of animals including guinea pigs, lions, anteaters, giraffes, elephants, gorillas, orangutans, flamingos, tigers, monkeys, a giant tortoise and many more! At lunch time we met some cheeky seagulls who were trying to steal are lunches, they even managed to steal Miss Sighe’s sandwich! We did a lot of walking and exploring and we enjoyed it that much we would love to go back. What a fantastic end of year trip!
Well done to all the Year 2 children who have worked hard all year with Mrs Boardman! You have all successfully passed the reading challenge. What an achievement! I am super proud of you all and I know Mrs Boardman is too!

During Design and Technology days we have been very busy designing and making kites! First we looked at different kites of all shapes and sizes. Then we got into groups and discussed ideas for our kite design. We worked together to design the kite and drew sketches to help us. After we had finished our design we made our kites using different resources such as wooden sticks, light fabric and string. We customised our kites using felt tip pens to create patterns. Finally we got to go on the field to test whether our kites would fly. We had so much fun and we have worked incredibly hard!
As well as planting sunflower seeds, we have also planted some carrot seeds. We started growing them in the classroom and then replanted them outside in the planters. We also planted some carrots seeds straight in the planter to see if it makes a difference! We are looking forward to seeing our carrots fully grown!

During science days last week we worked in groups to plant sunflower seeds. This week we have been making sure we water our seeds, give them sunlight and air! We have been making observations this week and are seeds have germinated! We have also been keeping diaries to record notes and draw pictures. We have had to re-pot two of the sunflowers as the roots were getting bigger. We will keep you updated on the progress of our sunflowers. We are hoping they grow really tall!

Thursday Chit Clubs have been popular this half-term, myself and the children have really enjoyed having a chat and eating our lunch together in the classroom. The children love chit chat club and here are some of the reasons why…
“I like chit chat club because we get to listen to music”
“I love chit chat club because it is really calm and we get to talk”
“I like chit chat club because it is super fun!”
I think Chit Chat club will have to continue next term!
This week we have continued to learn all about Sikhism. We have learned about a very important festival called Vaisakhi, also spelled Baisakhi. It is one of the most important dates in the Sikh calendar and it is the Sikh New Year festival and it is celebrated on 13th or 14th April. We found out that Sikhs celebrate Vaisaki by wearing colourful clothing, by having parades, going to the Gurdwara and by singing and dancing. We ended the week by creating our own Vaisaki flags and having a celebration in our classroom. We have enjoyed learning and writing all about the festival and talking about how we celebrate different things!
